Let's Help Put an End to Cancer

One of our traditions here at Friendly Park Swim & Tennis is participating in the Community Swim Association’s annual Swim for Cancer fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.

In the late 1960s, 15-year-old Grimsley High School swimmer John Dewey was diagnosed with skin cancer. His coach, Bob Sawyer, helped him through the rehabilitation process, and John went on to win the 1970 N.C. High School State Swimming Championship in the 100-yard freestyle before his cancer returned the following year and quickly claimed his life.

In 1973, John's coach, family, and friends started the fundraiser to raise awareness about cancer and charitable giving. Swim for Cancer has since raised millions of dollars for the American Cancer Society, and the Frogs are consistently one of the top fundraising teams in Greensboro.

We Have Many Fun Ways to Raise Money for SFC

1.) Online Auction (Saturday, June 21 - Sunday, June 22)

We're holding an online auction from June 21 through the end of Bingo! Night (see below) on Sunday, June 22. Bid on a Friendly Park Swim & Tennis membership, reserved tables for July 4th and Labor Day, the coveted Swim For Cancer VIP parking spot, and more! Want to donate gift cards or services to the auction? Contact Naomi Leslie at friendlypoolsfc@gmail.com. We’d love for you to be involved!

2.) Trivia Night (Sunday, June 22)

Enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and play Trivia Night Challenge at the pool on Sunday, June 22, which will include a 50/50 raffle! Adult beverages will be available in exchange for donations to SFC. Lifeguards will monitor the pool for your kids to swim.

Adult tickets: $35
Children’s tickets: $5

3.) Car Wash (Saturday, June 28)

Bring your dirtiest vehicle to the Centenary United Methodist Church parking lot from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. and our Frogs will clean it for a suggested donation of $10 to the American Cancer Society. You can pay with cash or online through the ACS fundraising app.

4.) The Friendly Frogs First SFC Treasure Sale (Sunday, June 29)

Donate new or gently used items for us to sell at our inaugural Friendly Frogs SFC Treasure Sale on Sunday, June 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grassy field between the pool and the basketball court. Email Naomi Leslie at friendlypoolsfc@gmail.com to coordinate a time to drop off your contributions NO LATER THAN Saturday, June 28 (which will give time to price items).  If you have fold-up tables we could borrow for the event, please email Naomi Leslie.

WE WILL NOT ACCEPT CLOTHING, WEAPONS, OR YARD EQUIPMENT. Please ensure items that require electricity are in working order; we will not have access to an outlet to demonstrate operation. Anything potentially valued at over $50 must be approved by Naomi Leslie. Rain Date: Sunday, July 6.

All items will 100% benefit Swim for Cancer. Unsold inventory will be donated to Goodwill. We will NOT be able to provide donation receipts. Donors may suggest the value of items, but SFC volunteers will price all inventory.

5.) Age Group Raffle Baskets (Drawings on Friday, July 4)

Members will see our beloved Raffle Baskets, collected and arranged by swim team parent volunteers, in the front breezeway of the pool about two weeks before Friendly's famous Fourth of July festivities. Don’t forget to buy raffle tickets for a chance to win some really fun packages!

6.) Cake Raffle (Tentative Date: Saturday, July 5)

We'll send a SignUp Genius for Friendly Park's bakers to contribute cakes or other yummy baked goods for this popular raffle. Swim for Cancer raises money and Frog families get sweet treats - a win-win for all!

7.) Corporate Sponsorships (Ongoing)

8.) Straight-from-the-Heart Giving
